Wireless Devices Cant Talk or Ping Each Other

Fri Sep 25, 2015 9:12 pm

I am running a Mikrotik 2011 with Capsman enabled and a RB433 Access Point with Capsman. All devices connect fine wirelessly and get dynamic IP addresses from both units and all devices can surf the internet. When I try to ping the attached wireless devices such as printers or laptop or pcs, the ping gives no reply. I am using 6.32.1 firmware on both devices.

The issue I am having is that I connected my printer to the wireless network and my laptop or phones will not see it even though its getting a good IP. I cant ping it nor can I ping anything from my pc thats connected to the wireless. My cell phones wont see the printer through the wireless network either for their apps to print from off the phone.

What could be causing the issue of not being able to ping or see the other devices on the wireless??

Thank you in Advance!!

You should simply set your wireless interfacedefault-forwardtoyes.

However, wifi client isolation is a good practice, so there is another way to do that: to make one wifi client accessible to other wifi clients you should create a virtual AP slave to your main WIFI interface, and assign that one client to this virtual AP. Then, this second interface should be added to a bridge with your main WiFi interface. Effectively, this will make that connected client appear on a different switch port, so ARP and packet forwarding will work as expected. Theforwardingflag in this case will not matter.

That's what I did for my WiFi enabled TV, to allow for an over-the-air Media Server use case.

I made a seperspective virtual ap as you said that is the current setup I am having issues with. The main subnet of the network is 192.168.10.1 and the wireless subnet is 10.20.30.1 so the setuo is already as you stated but still doesn't work.

Wait, so are all your wireless clients (including printer) connected to the same subnet? Or printer is on another subnet?

To start with, did you try setting default-forwarding to "yes" on all your wireless interfaces?

You should simply set your wireless interfacedefault-forwardtoyes.
I have the same problem on 5G and not on 2G. In 6.43.14 where this "default-forward" is? Datapath tab "local-forwarding" doesn't solve the issue for me and it's not set on otherwise working 2G band.

UPDATE:
Looks like I was able to resolve it via Interface -> Datapath tab -> "Client To Client Forwarding" explicitly set to "on"
It was a real issue with Google Home smart speakers randomly disappearing if my controlling phone was on the same wifi interface with them at the same time, for some reason only being an issue on 5G band...

Thank you! I set this in my CAPsMAN and My wireless clients can finally ping each other!
Winbox:
CAPsMAN -> Configurations tab -> Open your Configuration->Datapath tab -> "Client To Client Forwarding" check
