ROS 7 Wireless?

Wed Nov 06, 2019 8:18 pm

So, any improvements in wireless section, with new kernel?
Cause I see tons of topics regarding routing, and zero about wireless, and that's confuses me since wires always were the strong side of Mk, while wifi is the shi...est

Well maybe they're preparing smth for us? And it's doesn't have to be new devices, at least improve the old ones.
At least ARM, and maybe, exclusively, wAP ACs.
At least ac wave2

I expect at least a spectral scan for AC

For the next RouterOS v7beta release I would like to have latest bugfix from 6.46beta59, i.e.: "*) wireless - improved IPQ4019, QCA9984, QCA9888 wireless interface stability;"

Also currently when there are more than ~25 clients (just onnected only) to a cAP ac on 5 GHz, performance for all clients is low, e.g. loading internet sites isn´t always possible. I really hope this gets better with new Linux Kernel. Plus, I really would like to see MU-MIMO for some more performance, althouth I do not expect MU-MIMO too be the solution for all performance problems with cAP ac.

Is it only me who thinks that a wAP ac is way more mature than a cAP ac?

@mistry7: What access points do you use for high density locations?

No, you are not alone in this.

For Home and Small Business like Hotel with max 50 client --->> Ligowave Infinity
For Bigger Projects ..... Cambium or Ruckus
Cambium fits all WIFI4EU needs (IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac Wave2 -->IEEE 802.11d/e/h/i/k/r/u/v/w)
https://cdn.cambiumnetworks.com/wp-cont ... 052019.pdf
and the they are not that expensiv.....

Can the E430H really cope with higher amount of clients? e.g. 50 to 100 on 5 GHz? (It has the same IPQ4019 chipset as the MikroTik cAP ac...)

Yes, and this shows ones more, the only Big problem is Mikrotiks own Designed Wireless Driver...

What can You advice for home usage only (well, I'm asking for myself:D):
Basically I have 8-13(MAX) clients total, but
3 of them permanently doomed to work only with 2.4GHz chains, and in the end it's all about 3-6 maximum live clients that need cap "attention".
And my goals are: wireless speed (yeah, "give me those xxx mbps anywhere I want" thing) and distance (so cap beams at 30 meters and would penetrate concrete 30cm wall without huge losses - basically everything MK can't), and price OFC - so, I know that I won't be having best-of-the-best, and I don't have >300-1000$ per cap to buy ruckus.

Wireless speed in #1 priority, cause I have numerous clients that do need that (4K TV, Windows PC, hell, I need it even with some smartphone stuff) - and unfortunately there's no means I can do it all wired at all, even for PC cause I have a dramatically bad wires house planning, and expensive room finish - that way I can't just ruin half of the house to make proper wiring. That's why I'm leaning towards wireless gigabits and etc.etc... so hard.
Due to low client amount, I guess I don't need extra stable industrial HW.

I tried v7beta3 on RB433AH, and wAPac, and on both AP the 2.4GHz radio was useless. Clients can't connect to them because received signals (on client side) much lower with v7beta3.
两个AP没问题with ROS v6...

Since at the moment v6 and v7 uses identical driver and software for wireless, your observation is most likely a coincidence. The performance should be the same, signals also.

Depends on which v6 in particular. Country regulations started to be enforced somewhere around 6.44.x and depending on country settings this might mean reduction in Tx power ... of some 3 to 6 dB. Depending on channel used and device Tx power capabilities this might not affect 5GHz part the same way as 2.4GHz (specially the 'H' devices) ...

Yes it should. I'm total puzzled about this issue. Same device, same place, only the software version changed. An IoT device 5 meters distance from AP (behind 12cm brick wall) can't connect to it with new software. latest v6 it can connect with perfect signal strenght. Any idea/guess how can I eliminate this mistic phenomenon? Nobody else experience this?

Dear Oreggin, I had same issues testing ROS v7: clients keeps disconnecting and riconnecting or they are connected but with no data passing (RB952). Downgraded to ROS 6.45.7 and everything was fine.

Something has changed....got spoiled if I can say so. Wireless speed dropped to a mere 150-175 mbps, before it was from 280 and up to 400.
6.45.7
Dunno whats wrong with mikrotik wifi.... literally NOTHING changed in a past months....even the air in my house

I did some debug. On APs, 5GHz radios works fine and only 2.4GHz radios has this issue. Client trying to connect but can't go through handshake, never goes to authenticated state, remained in registered state for some seconds, but disconnect after that.
However one of my lucky client did a successfull authenticationoncebut after (almost exactly) 10 minutes it disconnected with timeout. Clients are windows, linux, android, embedded IoT and all of them works fine with RoS v6.

Ive always used mikrotik in wireless until 6 months ago, when I open my eyes, and see that mikrotik has no intention to enace the wireless, so I move to ubiquiti, im really sad about it but they give me no solution to wireless problems.
I ve passed to buy 50 cpe by months with mikrotik, to buy 100 of ubiquiti monthly.
And I have many friends in same situation, (they loose 70 % of my money)
Its something really sad that mikrotik leave wireless death....
Mirkrotik wireles RIP.
ROS 7 just a joke.

You have clearly not tested ros7 with wifiwave2.
The range and performance is amazing.
My iPhone used to have unstable 10mbit in my kitchen on AirPort Extreme (last gen). Audience on ros6 was about the same. While with ros7 and wifiwave2 I am getting at the very same place 350mbit stable!
Sure ros7 is still beta, but it is not a joke.
It is really good piece of development done by MikroTik and it is also built with WiFi6 in mind as we can see in driver capabilities, so they surely have already some hardware in testing to be released in future.
So wouldn’t call them a joke, especially for the price tag vs features (current and future)
